I am constantly seeing articles about identity theft, commercials, and in television cop shows (except, the Sopranos, which I don’t think qualifies as a “cop show”….maybe a “robber show”?).
I think that we are being bombarded with messages intended to scare the living daylights out of us and get us so worried about identity theft that we rush out and hire someone or some service to try and protect our identities.
I saw a commercial the other day for identity theft protection services, where a young woman takes out her recycling, places it at the curb, and a few minutes later a jogger comes along, stops by the bin and pulls out what must be a bank statement or other type of information which he then uses to steal her identity.
I really don’t know why anyone would put not-yet-shredded bank statements into their recycling bin, but of course the company making the commercial isn’t about to mention that. If people knew that, they wouldn’t pay a monthly fee to keep unscrupulous joggers from stealing their identity, would they?
Like so much in our lives of hyper-consumerism, the truth lies somewhere in between the rampant fear-mongering being spread by corporations and the complete ignorance a lot of people seem to have. Some people seem to think identity theft is akin to ‘invasion of the body snatchers’.

Yeah , Identity Theft, ruins the simplist of things in life, freedom to just be happy or content, to be a competitive athlete, or pursue a fruitful career; things like that, those things are only a distant goal for some of us, now, sitting quietly by ourselves, walking the streets in fear, of rejection and humiliation. Honesty, is only an ideal now, not being able to express a genuine message to a stranger on the streets
While it seems that these bullies and perverts of technology are winning today, it only time before these same mindless violators, (and everyone else I guess) should stand to be the losers of tomorrow, or are they already the targets and victims of today?? It doesnt feel to me like our society on a whole is functioning very well, does it?
I think that it is because of the subtle implications in peoples minds that we are all only animals, and the food chain of chicken, meat, or fish, of constantly passing through your body, soon enough, you really believe yourself to be any other animal. That is not really living the human experience, and as you can see, people are not allowed to live with true dignity, or honor, this way,..for me the answer is in Vegeterianism, it truly fullfills and illuminates the peaceful way,,,try it..Peace
